Training on the real needs of companies rather than training without an outlet: in Marseille, the system Building Geeks has just provided a new illustration of this. The seven beneficiaries of the fifth Marseille session all signed a work-study contract through Bouygues Building South East And Eiffage Construction Sud-Est at the end of their course, i.e. 100% recruitment.

The system, supported by Impala Avenir Développement with France Travail Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, took place in the Bricarde district, at the heart of an urban renewal operation carried out by the social landlord Erilia.

Three months to learn a trade

The seven participants, young people far from employment or RSA beneficiaries, were prepared for the job of building maintenance agent. For three months, they alternated training and immersion on a training site set up in an apartment provided by Erilia. On the program: interior envelope, electricity, plumbing, but also professional gestures and interpersonal skills essential for integration on site.

The objective was not to increase the hours of training, but to target skills directly useful for positions offered by partner companies.

This approach partly explains the recruitment rate obtained at the end of the session: even before the start of the training, Bouygues Bâtiment Sud-Est and Eiffage Construction Sud-Est committed to recruiting participants at the end of their course.

Train based on site needs

The system is based on France Travail’s Operational Preparation for Individual Employment (POEI). The principle is to prepare a job seeker for an identified position, by providing them with the additional skills expected by their future employer. The logic thus reverses the classic pattern: companies define their needs, training is constructed accordingly, then beneficiaries are supported until they take up their position.

For this fifth Marseille session, Impala Avenir Développement designed the course with Bouygues Bâtiment Sud-Est and Eiffage Construction Sud-Est. THE sourcing candidates and recruitment support were provided with the GEIQ BTP 13, while the ACPM took charge of the training. Erilia, for its part, provided free of charge an apartment from its real estate portfolio intended to be deconstructed to serve as a technical platform.

The system does not just provide a training certificate. It leads directly to a job, with initial professional experience and an increase in skills through contact with construction sites. Nationally, 58 people have already benefited from a POEI as part of the Les Geeks du Bâtiment schemes.

For construction companies facing persistent recruitment difficulties, the model is of obvious interest: identifying candidates, building training adapted to available positions and securing their arrival in the company.
