Promote the know-how of building craftsmen
“We have been organizing this competition for years but this is the first time that it is done by team, to emphasize cohesion and co-activity between trades, which is a reality on site.“, confides Marine Pons, RMC BFM ADS project director. It all started with an RMC tour, eight dates across the four corners of France, meeting artisans ready to take on the challenge. “On this occasion, from more than 100 candidates, two finalists were selected in each of the painting-decorating, masonry, plumbing-heating and carpentry trades to form two teams..” These teams are coached by two journalists and two influencers specializing in construction.

Employees of companies or self-employed entrepreneurs, their motivations are more or less the same: but everyone wanted to have a good time, to challenge themselves, to show their know-how and to meet other artisans outside the usual framework of their profession.

A team final
For 12 hours, divided into four half-days, two teams of four finalists competed through implementation tests on four identical structures. In addition to their own work, each candidate must work for one hour on the construction site of one of the members of their team, chosen in consultation before the start of the test.
The Truchot team testifies
Trained cabinetmaker David Bross created Haddock Menuiserie, an individual interior furniture company in Rions, in Gironde: “I found out about the competition via the Internet. What I liked was the idea of promoting professions that are not usually promoted by the general public.c”. Stressed by the environment on the first day, David Bross found his means afterwards. He salutes the solidarity of his companions, whom he met on site, and the good organization. “I will learn something about myself from this experience, which is also a fun way to show my clients another side of my way of working and my ability to handle a challenge, because I will talk about it on my Instagram account.“

Owner of his company BP Masonry in Saint-Thual, in Ille-et-VilainePierre Ballaguy was propelled into the adventure by his 13-year-old daughter, who discovered the competition on the radio. “I only participated for fun. It’s a change of construction sites and it was the opportunity to come to Batimat, where I had never been. But no time to linger, the construction sites are waiting for me!“
