Energy awareness: the Italian path is still long
From the study of Pulsee Light and Gas Index it emerges that 76% of Italians own their own homewith a prevalence of apartments larger than 70 m2.
However, the average age of the houses is around 40 yearsand 44% of respondents live in properties built between 20 and 50 years ago. Despite the importance attributed to the house, the renovations carried out appear to be datedwith the last one occurring on average more than 12 years ago.
The survey also highlights a limited knowledge about the energy efficiency of buildings. For example, 60% of Italians are not aware of the energy class of their home, and 46% do not even know what theEnergy Performance Certificate (APE). In general, knowledge of one’s own living context still seems rather lacking: the 40% of the interviewees declare, for example, that not knowing the type of roof on your home.
Building Bonuses Underused: Why?
According to the survey, the economic factor seems to be the main deterrent to energy efficiency of the house (63% of preferences), followed by the structural limitations of the home (17%) and the rules of the neighborhood and/or housing complex (13%).
75% of the sample interviewed declared that they had never taken advantage of the Building Bonuses: only 1 in 4 Italians therefore took advantage of the incentives to renovate their home.
Despite the relative popularity of the Renovation Bonus, used very often for boiler replacement, other incentives such as the Ecobonus and the Superbonus have seen much more limited application. Among the main barriers to the use of these incentives are economic reasons (30%), lack of the necessary requirements to benefit from them (21%) and difficulties related to condominium regulations or the neighborhood of residence (17%).
The road to a green transition effective therefore certainly requires a greater awareness among citizensbut also a commitment of the institutions – and companies – to make the available tools and incentives more accessible and understandable. Through adequate information it is possible to promote widespread energy efficiency and thus also contribute to a more sustainable future.
