For more than twenty years, Metisse® transforms recycled cotton clothing fibers into high-performance bio-sourced insulationcombining thermal and acoustic efficiency with controlled environmental impact. Today, the range is enriched with a new density of 30 kg/m3intended to reinforce the thermal and acoustic insulation of buildings, while maximizing carbon storage and the durability of installations.

Métisse is a thermal and acoustic insulation solution for buildings, manufactured by Le Relais and distributed via a network of specialized distributors to professionals and individuals. Designed from cotton fibers from recycled clothing, this biosourced insulation comes directly from the group’s research and development work. It constitutes a concrete response to the recovery of non-reusable textiles, in other words intended for incineration, while exploiting the natural cotton fibers, recognized for their insulating performance. This positioning is based on the unique model of Relais, a member of Emmaüs France, which has been developing an economic activity serving integration for over thirty years.®

A reinforced range to meet market needs

Born more than twenty years ago, theFrench biosourced insulation Métisse® has already established itself as a reference material in many buildings, thanks to its design from recycled cotton clothing fibers. Initially available in densities of 20 and 25 kg/m3it is deployed today at a density of 30 kg/m3 in order to cover the growing technical and thermal needs of contemporary construction sites.

This higher density offers:

– of the reinforced acoustic performance (up to -42 dB from 72/48);

– A optimal thermal comfort in winter and summer ;

– Improved mechanical strength over time;

– Increased carbon storage, helping to reduce the greenhouse gas footprint;

– Optimized ease of implementation, particularly on roofs.

A biosourced insulation committed to the social and solidarity economy

An integral circular sector

Métisse® stands out as the only biosourced insulation from the social and solidarity economy. Its manufacturing is based on a complete circuit, recovering used textiles at each stage. First of all, citizens drop off their cotton clothes in one of the 22,363 Le Relais collection points spread across the territory. Then, the textiles are sorted in one of the 18 Relais centers in France, where the cotton pieces at the end of their life are redirected to fraying.

In the Relais Recyclage Textile factory, nearly 6,000 tonnes of cotton are frayed each year, or 7% of the textiles sorted by Le Relais, before being thoroughly treated against fire. © Relais France

Finally, the frayed cotton is transformed in Métisse® factoriesallowing the annual production of 2,400 tonnes of insulation (approximately 550,000 m2), used in individual, tertiary, public and historic buildings, as evidenced by the insulated walls of the Comédie-Française.

A response to technical and regulatory issues

Beyond its circular and united origin, Métisse® is positioned as a complete technical solution in order to meet the requirements of future environmental regulations, in particular RE 2028/2031, since it combines high-level thermal and acoustic insulation, enhanced safety thanks to its durable fire treatment and contribution to the reduction of greenhouse gases through its carbon storage.

A complete offer for all building uses

L’Métisse® biosourced insulation is available in three formats: panels, rolls and bulkin order to adapt to all types of projects, whether new construction or renovation. Three families of products complete the offering to meet very specific needs, starting with the RT range – thermal and acoustic insulation in panels and rolls, available in densities 20, 25 and 30 kg/m3.

Then comes the EKO rangewith acoustic correction, density 45 kg/m3two thicknesses of 20 and 45 mm. And, finally, the FLOCON range : bulk thermal and acoustic insulation, density 15 kg/m3 expressed in thermal resistance R=7, equivalent to 440 mm deposited in height/m2 with the blowing machine for a material weight of 6 kg/m2.

This structuring allows Métisse® to cover all market needs.
