The German fund Mutares has received a firm offer from Italian entrepreneurs to sell a majority stake in the brand, which has 115 stores and employs 2,000 people in France.

THE name of Lapeyre could soon be written with an Italian accent. THE Mutares German fundwhich took over the brand from Saint-Gobain in 2021, announces having received a “irrevocable offer from a group of Italian entrepreneurs“bearing on”the acquisition of a majority stake” in the Lapeyre group.

Among the future shareholders would notably be “members of the family that owns Bricofere and Conforama Italia“, specifies Mutares in a press release. The amount of the operation has not been communicated. Requested by AFP, Mutares did not wish to specify this.

An operation expected in the fourth quarter

The change of control is not immediate, however. The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026, subject to the satisfaction of customary conditions. Moreover, Mutares will not completely exit the capital ; the fund indicates that it “will retain a minority stake in Lapeyre and will continue to contribute to the company’s turnaround“.

This operation marks a new stage in the recent history of the brand, which had already changed ownership in 2021. At the time, Saint-Gobain, which had owned Lapeyre since 1996, sold the group to Mutares. For the German fund, this new operation is part of a strategy to refocus its portfolio. Johannes Laumann, director of Mutare investmentss, thus evokes a “new milestone“aimed at”further refocus its portfolio on the chemicals, energy, infrastructure, logistics and services sectors“.

115 stores and 2,000 employees in France

Created in 1931, Lapeyre remains an important player in the French development market. The brand now has 115 stores in France and nine production sites, and the group directly employs around 2,000 people with a turnover of around 475 million euros.

Lapeyre distributes to individuals and professionals a wide spectrum of products covering in particular windows, doors, kitchens, bathrooms and storage.
