Financial mobilization is gaining momentum around the Limoges town hall. In fact, the kitty opened by the Heritage Foundation to participate in the reconstruction of the town hall had crossed the threshold of one million euros on Monday at midday. It totaled precisely 1,007,700 euros, raised thanks to the generosity of more than 9,000 donors.

This collection takes place after thearson which heavily damaged the building during the excesses that occurred during the national mobilization of October 17, 2026. A first phase of work expected at the beginning of 2027

There restoration of the building will take place in several stages. Firstly, interventions must make it possible to consolidate the parts weakened by the fire like put in place temporary coverpreparatory work which is announced by the beginning of 2027 by the Ministry of Culture.

The main construction site should only begin in 2028. According to the forecast schedule communicated by the ministry, its completion is envisaged by 2030-2031, for an overall cost of the operation which remains to be determined: the “overall cost of restoration is currently being evaluated“, specifies the ministry.

Classification as historic monuments to facilitate financing

A few days after the disaster, the Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu announced, during a trip to LimogesTHE full classification of the town hall as historical monumentsa protection intended in particular to make it possible to mobilize specific financing for its restoration. The head of government had also promised that the costs would be covered by the State, supplemented by contributions from public and private sponsorship. There Heritage Foundation collection is part of this system.

Additional tax support could also encourage donations. At the end of October, the National Assembly adopted an amendment to the draft state budget for 2027 providing for a tax reduction increased by 75%, within the limit of 1,000 euros, for amounts paid for the reconstruction of the town hall.

With more than a million euros already raised, the collection reflects a significant mobilization around the safeguarding this emblematic building of Limougeaud heritage.
