In 2024, construction and demolition activities generated 90.4 million tonnes of special waste in Italy, equal to 52.5% of the national total. According to ISPRA’s Special Waste Report – 2026 Edition, the recycling rate of C&D waste, excluding soil, rocks and dredging sludge, has reached 82.4%, exceeding the European target of 70%.
Technologies and sectors on display in Rimini
Ecomondo 2026, the international event of the Italian Exhibition Group (IEG) which brings together companies, institutions, research and policy makers involved in environmental transformations, will be staged from 3 to 6 November at the Rimini Fair. The new layout dedicates an entire pavilion to the sector for the first time Textiles. The space for is also growing Waste as Resourcedivided into areas Collection Vehicles & Containers, Street Cleaning & Maintenance, Material Handling & Lifting, Treatment Machinery and Recycling & Integrated Waste Management.
Water Cycle & Blue Economy it is reorganized, instead, into the following sections: Blue Economy; Trenchless Technologies; Pumps & Flow Control Systems; Water, Wastewater & Sludge Treatment; Water Supply Systemsalso confirming the Blue Economy District and the Trenchless District organized with the Italian Association for Trenchless Technologies (IATT).
The sectors also remain present Sites & Soil Restoration, Earth Observation and Environmental Monitoring, Bio-energy & Agriculture and Circular & Regenerative Bio-Economytogether with the district Circular&Healthy Citydedicated to technologies and solutions for healthier and more sustainable cities. A specific focus concerns the life cycle of paper, while the Innovation District brings together start-ups, innovation and sustainable skills.
Program and international dimension
The event consolidates its international profile by bringing buyers, delegations and associations from every continent to the Fair, in collaboration with the MAECI – Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and with ICE – Agency for the promotion abroad and the internationalization of Italian companies. A journey that also includes roadshows in Spain, Morocco, Germany, Hungary and Canada, which present Ecomondo abroad and strengthen its already solid global network.
The conference programme, curated by the international Scientific Technical Committee of the event, involves European and international institutional partners, the European Commission, agencies and other stakeholders such as OECD and FAO, with high-level insights on the main regulatory dossiers: Circular Economy Act, Bioeconomy Strategy, Biotech Act II, Pact for the Mediterranean, RESourceEU Action Plan, Critical Raw Materials Act and new provisions on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR).
The event will open on the first two days with the States General of the Green Economy, organized by the Foundation for Sustainable Development with the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security (MASE) and promoted by the National Council of the Green Economy, which also includes a second plenary session entirely in English.
With an increasingly marked presence of vertical communities involved in the ecological transition, Ecomondo 2026 presents itself as a strategic hub for learning about supply chains, technologies and new models that are driving this transformation.
