Emma Potter

As we know, on 9 April last it was held in Bologna the First edition of the National Conference of Building Pathologies (CONAPE), who brought together Technicians, institutions, businesses and experts in the sector To explore a theme of fundamental importance, which directly affects designers and clients: building pathologies and theirs incidence on Italian real estate assets.

Between interventions, workshops and comparisons, we interviewed some of the protagonists of Conape: let’s find out what emerged. Let’s start from Paola Triaca, Construction engineer which has been operating for 20 years in the construction sector, specializing in civil, building and in general of maintenance of buildings, and which in the last ten years has supported the experience of the design and construction site condominium administrator.

Interview with Ing. Paola Triaca

Let’s listen to his answer:

We are talking in the detail of the Higher Education course in This dedicated article!

Post-event reflections: good first!

After his participation in Conape, Paola Triaca shared us one reflection that is straight to the heart of the technical profession. Here are his words.

I have been building engineer for over 20 years and among my stopping points of the profession I have the awareness that The entire construction process must be told. We have to learn to explain to the end user what we do and also why we do it, details the passages and consequences of the lack of actions. The customer claims to know and if we do not explain we professionals, he will rely on Google or AI, taking the approximate or even wrong information for gold. Telling why choices is the heart of the technical profession of the next 20 years. The properties have profoundly changed, the new ones and the renovated ones. The management of buildings, the attention to be lent and the interventions to be programmed periodically have changed in the methods and frequency. For the average Italian, the home is the most important investment that is completed and taking care must be a good habit. The care of buildings passes from the knowledge of the state of fact and affects the well -being of those who live them. This is the nerve point of the matter and CONAPE, all the interventions have enhanced the link between building maintenance and health.

We spend most of our time between the four walls and too often we forget that The conditions of buildings also affect our health. Not only for aesthetic reasons and, in the most serious, structural situations, but also for the protection of health and safety. I wrote a book, published by Maggioli Editore, on ordinary maintenance. I think it is a theme on which to push with strength and constancy and on April 9th there was no lack of ideas for reflection on the topic. I followed the intervention of dr. Massimo Salmaso, “plant pathologies in air conditioning systems: prevention, diagnosis and corrective interventions” and Eng. Claudio Giacalone, “Fire safety of facades and structural safety of buildings: regulations and practices”. Both managed to be concrete. It is not simple, but it is the effort that we are asked to make a difference. I trust that the appointment with the Conape becomes annual And launch a challenge: Road to Conape, monthly appointments of approach to the next edition, with short and incisive interventions to maintain attention and to renew the need to deepen the theme.
