In view of the celebrations for the Jubilee of the Catholic Church in 2025, the Regional Council of Lazio has launched an important opportunity for the municipalities of the region.

Thanks to a maximum contribution of 125 thousand euros for each local authority proponent, the Municipalities will be able to carry out interventions to redevelop and improve the infrastructure, with particular attention to energy sustainability and accessibility.

The initiative represents a precious opportunity for small centers that, until now, had been excluded from other funds. But how will this financing work? And which projects will be admitted?

A contribution to redevelop and improve infrastructure

The regional contribution, equal to a maximum of 125 thousand euros per municipality, is intended to support a series of urban redevelopment projects and the improvement of technological systems.

Eligible areas of intervention include energy consumption containment and the removal of architectural barriers, which are key elements for promoting a more sustainable and inclusive city. However, the projects must be completed by December 31, 2025, the date that marks the end of the Jubilee celebrations.

The aim is to improve the quality of services to pilgrims and, at the same time, enhance the cultural and historical heritage of the locations.

Exclusions and methods of access to financing

It is important to underline that not all municipalities in the Lazio region will be able to access this funding. In particular, Rome Capital and those municipalities that already benefit from other funds or planned interventions are excluded from the initiative.

This measure, therefore, aims to support those Municipalities that, until now, had not had access to other financing channels, offering them a concrete opportunity to improve their infrastructure in view of the Jubilee.

The participation modalities require that municipal administrations present projects that also involve public and private institutions, including parishes, dioceses, Catholic institutes and other religious bodies recognized by the State, in addition to local associations. The synergy between the different social and institutional realities is considered a strong point to guarantee effective and well-rooted interventions in the territory.

Funding objectives: accessibility and enhancement of heritage

The main objective of the funding is to improve the reception of pilgrims and the use of places of worship. Municipal administrations will have to focus on interventions that make their territories more accessible and functional for the large influx of visitors expected during the Jubilee of 2025.

Priorities include the removal of architectural barriers, making public places and places of worship accessible to all, including the elderly and people with disabilities.

Not only that: the projects may also include communication campaigns aimed at promoting the tourist-religious offer, enhancing the historical, artistic and cultural heritage of the locations involved. This synergy between infrastructural improvement and cultural promotion aims to bring out the richness and diversity of the Lazio region, going beyond the centrality of Rome and also favoring small centers.
