Why is it important to protect roofs?
In consideration of the climate changes and the possible repercussions resulting from it, it is essential to adopt preventive measures to ensure the protection of people and material assets. It is essential to protect buildings not only from overheating, which can deteriorate and weaken structures in the long term, but also from hail, which can damage tiles and tilesputting the waterproofing and thermal insulation of roofs at risk.
Saint-Gobain Italia solutions against hail
Research and innovation Saint Gobain Italy in the field of modern building materials, which combine living comfort and sustainability, they offer a wide range of branded products and solutions Isover dedicated to roofing.
The line Bituverwhich includes elastomeric and elastoplastomeric blend membranes with technology BituverTech®offers advanced solutions for roof protection. These products guarantee excellent waterproofing and resistance to hail impacts. Among them, some are tested to determine their resistance to hail according to the EN 13583 standard, ensuring not only the effective protection of roofs but also the possibility of restoring their integrity after any damage.
An example in this sense is Bituver Fleximatan elastomeric membrane with continuous thread polyester TNT reinforcement reinforced with glass fiber threads.
Bituver Renoveron the other hand, is a double-compound single-layer membrane ideal for resurfacing old and deteriorated membranes. The lower side, made with a specific SBS elastomeric compound, guarantees high adhesion, while the upper side in APAO compound allows for superior application efficiency.
Among the complete thermo-acoustic insulation solutions proposed by Saint-Gobain Italia we mention Saint-Gobain Roof System Ice Protection: a flat roof with mineral insulation and double layer waterproofing membrane. Bureau Veritas has carried out a technical certification of conformity of the Saint-Gobain Roof System Ice Protection waterproof system to the UNI 8178/2:2019 standard (continuous roofing design indications). In addition to the insulating layer made up of the panel Isover Superbac Roofine G3the sealing element, used as a finishing layer, is made up of the elastomeric membrane Bituver Fleximat 4 mm Mineral which, thanks to the special BPE compound, guarantees cold flexibility down to -25° and has been subjected to hail resistance tests.
Solutions for reducing the “heat island” effect
Saint-Gobain Italia offers a wide range of innovative solutions for energy saving and characterized by a high solar reflectance index, including the Saint-Gobain Roof System California BT2. This solution is B certifiedROOF(t2) by a third party and intended for flat roofs with high SRI (Solar Reflection Index).
THE’SRI index of coverage indicates the capacity of the latter to reflect and dissipate heat from the sun’s rays. A high SRI value means that less heat will be absorbed and transmitted to internal environments, reducing energy consumption and air conditioning costs, as well as improving living comfort.
The system consists of two main layers. The first is the waterproofing element Bituver S-30 4 mm Pan elastomeric membrane with a special BPE blend, characterized by cold flexibility down to -30°C. The second is a high SRI elastomeric membrane, also made with the special BPE mixture, flame applied and known as Bituver Megaver California. This membrane is covered with an embossed aluminum foil, pre-painted with a reflective white paint and treated with advanced technologies to improve adhesion and durability.
Thanks to this solution, Saint-Gobain Italia offers the only waterproofing membrane for roofs with SRI values certified by a third party, both for new materials and for those subjected to aging.
- Certified SRI values: 96% (new)
- Certified SRI values: 80% (subjected to aging)
