The program of adaptation interventions: times and objectives
A central part of the guidelines concerns the Adjustment program of the railway galleries in operation.
Within twelve months From the entry into force of the decree, the managers must complete arisk analysis For each gallery.
Within sixteen monthsa detailed program of safety interventions, divided into several phases and with indication of the estimated costs.
The interventions must be concluded within eight years for the galleries in the area of ”acceptability and attention” e within fifteen years for the others. The program, accompanied by schedule and expected economic resources, must be constantly updated.
In case of risk deemed unacceptablethe manager is required to take technical, operational or organizational measures, which report the levels of social and individual risk of the gallery at least in the “Area of acceptability and attention”.
Repeal and regulatory substitutions
With the approval of the new guidelines, it comes officially Abbogged the ministerial decree of 28 October 2005which had regulated safety in the railway galleries to date.
In addition, the guidelines implemented the regulation (EU) n. 1303/2014 of the Commission of 18 November 2014, relating to the technical specifications of interoperability concerning the “safety in the railway galleries” of the European Union railway system and subsequent amendments and additions (Sti SRT).

The guidelines are divided into 14 main sectionseach of which deals with a critical aspect of rail security.

Particular attention is paid to vehicle, New galleries, Existing galleriesas well as to isolated networks and at tourist railways.
