Buy an industrial building as a product onlinethis is Steel Shed’s – successful – bet. In 25 years, thecompany founded by two French people has sold more than 25,000 metal buildings worldwide and now has more than 50 million euros in turnover.

A factory like ordering a car?

What if tomorrow, building a warehouse or an agricultural building required just a few clicks? This is the idea defended by Steel Shed, a family business become in two decades an international player in the distance selling of metal buildings.

L’company, sometimes presented as the “Tesla of metal building”did not invent a new constructive process. No, it has applied methods from online commerce to the construction sector, focusing on price transparency, standardization and digitalization of the customer journey. A model that is still atypical in a market historically dominated by tailor-made studies, long technical exchanges and traditional commercial circuits.

With Steel Shedand thanks to a 3D configurator, the customer can now define their project, obtain an immediate budget estimate then control your building remotelywith technical support. “Traditionally, the sector is driven by engineers who do business. We are merchants who sell technical solutions“, summarizes Vincent Lyonnet, partner in charge of development and communication.

The model is based on several levers: standardized design, optimized steel purchases, international logistics organization and direct sales. A combination that would allow Steel Shed to offer prices 20 to 40% lower than market prices, according to the company. ©Steel Shed

More than 25,000 buildings sold since 2001

Created in 2001, Steel Shed today claims more than 4 million m2 of buildings soldspread across more than 60 countries in Europe, Africa and Oceania. Growth has accelerated in recent years, because after starting with a few hundred annual transactions, the group now exceeds 3,800 sales per year. Based in Luxembourg, in the heart of a region historically linked to the steel industry, Steel Shed benefits from a central location to serve the European market.

The company adapts each of its buildings to the constraints specific to the country of destination, whether snow loads, resistance to violent winds, requirements linked to cyclone zones or even local regulations in force. If the design is carried out in Luxembourg, part of the structures are then assembled in France, on the group logistics platform located in Haute-Saônebefore being shipped to their various markets.

This control of the supply chain constitutes one of the differentiating elements of the group, capable of calculating up to number of containers needed to ship a building internationally.

The low price recipe: standardize without degrading

To explain its prices, Steel Shed puts forward an industrialization strategy close to that applied in other sectors. Standardization first makes it possible to limit design costs. Then, the use of a sourcing international high-strength steel allows purchase prices to be contained. Finally, hot-dip galvanizing, integrated into the offers, aims to strengthen the durability of structures. The company also emphasizes the recyclability of steel, presented as an environmental advantage compared to materials that are more difficult to recycle.

Three brands to accelerate

Steel Shed now relies on three complementary brands:

–batimentsmoinschers.com, a historic brand launched in 2001, markets industrial, agricultural or equestrian buildings as well as shelters intended for individuals and professionals;

–tolesmoinscheres.com completes the offer with envelope materials: steel tray sheets, sandwich panels, cladding and accessories – and the platform claims an increase of 300% in five years;

– Finally, Steel Shed for Business, launched in 2026, targets large industrial accounts with more complex projects: logistics platforms, agri-food buildings, industrial sites or multi-site programs.

After winning over SMEs, artisans and farmers, Steel Shed now intends to move up a gear. With its offering dedicated to major accounts, the company hopes to convince customers accustomed to traditional industrial building players. His bet is simple: apply to metal buildings what Tesla did in automobiles – simplify the purchase, accelerate the decision and place the customer experience at the center. It remains to be seen whether the industrial market, long attached to tailor-made approaches, will in turn accept order your buildings like digital products.
