Next Milan. 2015-2030 Urban Regeneration
The publication offers a reflection on the elements of the decision-making process, on urban policies and on the most recent initiatives expressed by the city of Milan aimed at tracing the vision of the new scenarios in progress. The aim of the publication is to contribute to the disciplinary debate on the transformation and regeneration of Milan for the coming years, also in view of the Winter Olympics, starting from a narration of the paths of change of the city, from the 2000s to future structures. In the current context, characterized by rapidly changing global dynamics and complex and contradictory territorial localisms, the analytical elements of reference move from the ecological to the digital transition, from the themes of inclusion and solidarity to the role of events such as EXPO 2015 in the recent past and the 2026 Olympics for the future, from the post-pandemic to the social housing emergency, from urban mobility to the morphogenesis of the city and the architectural language up to the prefiguration of the future Milan. The theoretical thought that is proposed in the publication is that when urban morphology, architecture and public space also represent contemporary society, the way of living and working in terms of language, then regeneration expresses more effective paths by restoring a context in which society itself can fully express itself. As such, the book does not claim to be exhaustive or to provide a reading in the form of a catalogue by taking up projects that are already partly known for the regeneration of new squares and architecture that the city has now positively metabolised, but rather to outline the scenario for 2030 by fuelling the debate in terms of participation in governance. In this sense, it pays more attention to future projects, inclusive public ones, of the reticular city of proximity that rebalances opportunities by enhancing the themes of hospitality, solidarity, sustainability and accessible living.
