The need for a renewal
The redevelopment intervention just ended has affected the area of fast surfaces, and in particular fields 12, 14, 15 and 16. Alabiso says: “It was a necessity that we had been evaluated for some years. We took the opportunity when our male team was promoted in Serie A, category that requires compliance with specific structural standards imposed by the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation (Fitp). The fields 15 and 16 were intended for official matches, We also decided to extend the works to fields 12 and 14, to renew the entire area of the rapid surfaces, which were no longer suitable to guarantee the standards required for a high -level competitive activity “.
The project was designed to better serve not only the summit team – made up almost entirely of athletes who grew up in the club nursery – but also the 30 teams overall active in the club, which participate in federal competitions throughout the year. In addition, the works had to be completed within a very narrow time window, to ensure the start of the Italian Under 12 championships scheduled from August 28th. “From 24 the circle had to be perfectly operational and ready to host the event – the director points out – for both functional and safety reasons. It should be noted that tournaments such as the Lambertenghi Porro Cups, the Italian Under 12 Championships and the Bonfiglio Trophy (International Championships of Italy Juniores) are held on the fields in Red Land, but it is still necessary that the entire structure is present in optimal conditions, not only to guarantee safety, not only to guarantee safety, overall, but also to preserve the image and decorum of the club on the occasion of national and international events “.
The solutions adopted: from the background to the surface
The intervention was divided into two main phases: the realization of the concrete background, curated by Heidelberg Materials, and the laying of the sports surface in resin, entrusted to the Play It Company, a family -run reality based in Desenzano del Garda, which has been established as a reference in the construction and renovation of tennis and multipurpose fields, with a consolidated presence at national and international level in the sector of the company sector sector sporting.
For the background I.PRO Pavimix® of Heidelberg Materials, a performance concrete designed for floors subject to humidity from moderate to high and medium intensity. Andrea Cervato, head of Heidelberg Materials’ territorial activities: “We have provided about 330 m³ of concrete, for a total area of over 2,200 m². The product guarantees a series of fundamental technical advantages: ease of laying in the fresh state, homogeneous hardening of the slab, excellent planarity, reduced times of finishing and great durability”.
The supply, which started from the Heidelberg Materials of Rho (MI), was managed operationally by I.BUILD, the business unit of the group specialized in the laying of turnkey flooring. “The intervention did not take place in a conventional construction site – underlines Cervato – but within a fully operational historical structure, with ongoing sports activities. We worked in conditions of maximum safety, operating within the areas delimited and planned with precision, but the main challenge was logistical: 32 Betoniere, pumped jets, cadenced supplies and constant coordination with the functional needs of the club. In concrete, an existing floors was carried out directly above, a design solution adopted to optimize the intervention timing and guarantee the full operation of the system within the expected deadlines “.
The Play-Flex Confort® system was applied above the screed, produced and laid by Play it. It is a multilayer solution particularly suitable for basketball, volleyball and 5-a-side football fields, both in indoor and outdoor environments. Thanks to the particular elasticity of its composition, in fact, it guarantees maximum game comfort, enhancing the rebound of the ball and reducing trauma to the joints. It is easy to apply, requires minimal maintenance and ensures a long duration of the field (over twenty years).
As Laura Zanola explains, today at the helm of the company with the parents, “the system is composed of a 6 mm prefabricated prefabricated rubber carpet, glued on the background, and covered with four layers of resin. It is our flagship product, the one that most identifies us on the market. Thanks to its structure, it guarantees maximum comfort, excellent rebound, long duration and reduction of joint trauma, with a shock absorber of 30%.
The system is certified ITF class 3 (average speed), but allows modulations according to the finish. In the case of the Bonacossa we configured two faster fields (ITF3, fields 12 and 14) and two slower (ITF2, fields 15 and 16). The chosen coloring resumes that of the Australian Open, with blue interior and blue edge “.

Timing, methods and executive precision
The processing of the surface is strongly conditioned by the quality of the background and the climatic conditions. “Our mat faithfully follows the bottom – explains Zanola – if there are irregularities, we must intervene to correct them. A perfectly level fund is very rare, but the one made by Heidelberg Materials has allowed us to proceed with great effectiveness”.
For each field, about 6-7 days of work are needed, between gluing the mat and progressive laying of the four layers of resin. “The high summer temperatures represent a critical factor for the correct execution of the works: the application of the resins must take place within a precise thermal interval, in order to avoid accelerated hardening phenomena or performance alterations. Furthermore, each layer must be left to dry completely before proceeding with the following one, in compliance with the technical maturation times”, Zanola points out.
A replicable synergy
The intervention, as we have seen, started a collaboration between two reference realities in their respective sectors: Play it, specialized in the creation of sports surfaces for tennis, and Heidelberg Materials, among the main integrated manufacturers of solutions and materials for global constructions. The synergy between the two companies was born with the aim of proposing an integrated system – concrete background and sports surface – replicable in other similar contexts, ensuring high technical performance, durability and ease of management.
A well -structured collaboration, which led to the realization of an effective intervention both from a technical and organizational point of view, the result of the integration of complementary skills and a shared vision based on quality, executive precision and attention to detail.
This project highlighted how much a synergy of this type can make a difference. Play it found in Heidelberg Materials a reliable and competent technical interlocutor, capable of guaranteeing precision and support at every stage of the project. Also from Heidelberg Materials the judgment was positive: the collaboration made it possible to propose an integrated system, from the execution of the concrete background to the laying of the resin surface, ensuring high performance and maintenance costs. Finally, the client also expressed full satisfaction, underlining the professionalism of the teams involved, the attention to the historical value of the structure and the ability to dialogue and find shared solutions in a delicate and complex operational context.
